130+ Religious Organizations Say NO to DC Takeover

September 3, 2025

As one of the organizational co-chairs of Faithful Democracy, Interfaith Alliance led a powerful letter to Congressional leadership this Tuesday—joined by over 130 faith-based organizations—expressing alarm at the federal takeover of D.C.'s police and calling for Congressional support to protect the District’s autonomy and advance statehood. The letter recognizes the urgency of this moment, reminding us that the capital “remains constitutionally vulnerable” and notes that:

“As people of faith, we stand against this government overreach. We express our solidarity with those who are often made invisible—including unhoused individuals, people of color, and young people—yet bear the brunt of militarized policy approaches. Now more than ever, it is essential to center the inherent dignity and personhood of every individual and refocus our efforts on investing in our communities rather than punishing them.”

You can read the full letter here or join us in advocating via our action alert, where you can help us mobilize for DC’s fair treatment and democratic rights.
