Supreme Court Rules Against Transgender Students Seeking Equal Access to School Sports

June 30, 2026

Interfaith Alliance is deeply troubled by today’s Supreme Court rulings in Little v. Hecox and West Virginia v. B.P.J. By upholding Idaho and West Virginia’s bans, the Court has allowed states to exclude transgender students from playing in school sports simply because of who they are.

Trans young people deserve better than to be excluded and demonized for political points. By validating the cynical targeting of transgender youth, the Court has made vulnerable children pay the price for a manufactured culture war.

Interfaith Alliance recommits to defending the God-given dignity of trans youth and their equality under the law.

On this last day of Pride Month, the Supreme Court does not get the last word on the equality of trans people. It is more important than ever that Americans of diverse faiths and beliefs come together to show up alongside all  our trans neighbors and siblings. Interfaith Alliance will continue fighting the religious right’s crusade to cloak discrimination against transgender people in the language of faith.
